Friday is International Beer and Pizza Day, and around here, that's practically a local holiday. Nobody does the pairing better than a Gold Country town, so here's your cheat sheet for a perfect Friday night without leaving the county.
The Pizza
Paisano's Pizzeria, Ione. The local institution at 325 Preston Avenue. Family recipes that go back 90 years, an all-you-can-eat weekday lunch buffet, and a Cowboy Up pie piled with pepperoni, salami, ham, linguisa, Italian sausage, and bacon. Menu: ilovepaisanos.com/menus
Gold Dust Pizza, Sutter Creek. Right on Eureka Street in the heart of downtown, and it's a local favorite for good reason. Handcrafted pies with names like the Gold Digger and the Jewel of the Mother Lode, plus a gluten-free cauliflower crust if you need it. Menu: golddustpizza.com/our-menu
Moonrise Pizza, Amador City. Sourdough crust, craft beer on tap, and pinball. I'm not sure a better place to celebrate beer and pizza day exists. It's at 14179 Main Street and it's open Friday. Menu: moonrisepizza.com
The Beer
Amador Brewing Company. Amador County's family-owned brewery, with two taprooms: the original on Main Street in Plymouth and the Hoist House in Pine Grove. Award-winning, seasonal, and poured fresh. And their cans and taps show up all over the county, so there's a good chance you're already drinking local. amadorbrewing.com
The plan: grab a pie from one town, a pint from the other, and call it a perfect Friday. Every dollar stays in Amador County, which is the kind of win-win we like around here.
