Friday is International Beer and Pizza Day, and the south county knows how to do it right. From a family-owned pizzeria that's been at it for three decades to a brewery poured inside a former city hall, here's your cheat sheet for a perfect Friday night in Galt or Elk Grove.

The Pizza

Stratton's Pizzeria, Galt. The top-rated local pick at 330 South Lincoln Way. Handcrafted pies, a great salad bar, and beer on hand, all in a locally owned spot that makes Galt feel like Galt.

Pizza Guys, Galt. A family pizza shop at 640 Carol Drive that's been part of the community for years, with fresh dough made daily and a focus on good, consistent pies.

Fat Mike's Pizza, Elk Grove. Family-owned since 1992 and made fresh to order, with dozens of toppings and serious local loyalty. It's the kind of place that's been a Friday-night fixture for three decades.

New York Pizza, Elk Grove. The go-to since 1996 for dough made from scratch and high-quality toppings. If you want a classic pie done without shortcuts, this is the spot. Menu: nypizzaelkgrove.com

The Beer

River Rock Brewery, Galt. Award-winning beer brewed right on site, housed in Galt's old city hall building. Family-friendly, with cans and bottles to take home. Established 2016.

Back Alley Brewhouse, Galt. A family- and dog-friendly craft beer garden pouring over 20 taps in a laid-back outdoor setting. backalleybrew.com

Flatland Brewing, Elk Grove. The top-rated craft brewery in town, with great beer, a welcoming taproom, and a community feel that keeps locals coming back.

Dust Bowl Old Town Tap House, Elk Grove. Dust Bowl's taproom in a historic brick building in Old Town, with the signature big pours and good vibes. dustbowlbrewing.com

The plan: grab a pie in one town, a pint in the other, and call it a perfect Friday. Every dollar stays local, which is the kind of win-win we like around here.

And if a town that pairs family-recipe pies with a cold local pint sounds like home to you, I'd love to help you find your spot here.
